Lecture Series Schedule | Connection Instructions | Archived Lectures

If you plan to participate please review the instructions listed below then send a message to rsvp@archaeoinformatics.org so that we can anticipate the network requirements.

The University of Arkansas uses an NCSA Venue as a virtual meeting place for each lecture. It is possible to take advantage of this lecture series in serveral ways.

First, using conferencing facilities provided by Access Grid® or InSORS you can be networked into the virtual meeting with two-way audio and video.

Access Grid® or InSORS is typically available at most University campuses. Contact your appropriate University department to determine which technology is being used and have the node operator contact the University of Arkansas node operators - John Chapman or Dan Puckett.

Alternately, you can receive an outgoing audio feed of the lecture.

Finally, with the permission of the presenters, we will make archived versions of
the presentations available for download. The lecturer's PowerPoint presentations will be posted on the web so that you can download them and follow along on your own machine, or you can receive a live feed via Breeze (Acrobat Connect).

- Once at the site, click on the date of the lecture on the calendar on the left side of the page.

- The schedule for the day will be shown - look for (and click on)
"Archeoinformatics Collaboration".

- Information regarding the lecture will be shown. The first line in the "Technical Information" heading will list the Venue.

Then, connect to the venue:

- Connect to http://insors.internet2.edu with your browser.

- Click on "Venues", and enter your username and password. (You may need to request access to this server from inSORS.)

- On the venues page, in the line labelled "inSORS EDU Rooms", is a dropdown
menu. If the venue you found on the scheduler was "Monte Carlo", you'd choose
"NCSA-Monte Carlo" in the Venue.

- Click on the "Bridged" button at the far right end of the line.

At this point, the inSORS software should run. There are a couple of other settings to change.

- In the upper right corner of the inSORS window is a camera icon. Right-click
it for a menu

- The top item in the menu, "Transmit Local Video", has a submenu which lets you
set which cameras are being streamed. Please send from only one camera, as the
number of participants may be large.

- Further down on the menu is "Video Properties". Choose this, and then set the encoding for your camera to "H.261 Standard"
